Pumas Cantera Update: Youth teams closing in on liguilla

Here is the latest news on what’s happening with the Pumas youth teams.

While Pumas Premier is already involved in the postseason, the rest of the cantera is knee deep in the playoff race with either a week or two to go.

Pumas Premier (Segunda Division)

Latest Score: Pumas 0-2 Queretaro

Pumas Premier had a very impressive Clausura, finishing third in Group 3 of the Liga Premier, with an 8-2-5 record (30 points).

The round robin playoffs are another story, as the team has dropped all three games so far, scoring just two goals while giving up seven. With three games remaining, it is nearly impossible for them to advance out of the group.

Pumas U-20

Score: Pumas 1-2 Veracruz

The U-20s complicated their playoff hopes after falling to Veracruz last weekend. Alejandro Casillas scored the lone goal, his first of the tournament.

With two games remaining, Pumas sit just outside the liguilla zone in 10th position, with 22 points. They face Morelia and Puebla to end the tournament.

Pumas U-17

Score: Pumas 2-2 Veracruz

The U-17s are certainly headed for the liguilla, but they’re also fighting for the top spot in the league. After drawing with Veracruz last weekend, Pumas sit in second place with 36 points.

In their draw last week, Brian Figueroa and Bryan Silva scored the goals.

Like the first team and U-20s, the U-17s will close out the tournament against Morelia (current league leaders) and Puebla.

Pumas (Tercera Division)

Score: Pumas 5-1 Leopardos FC

With a dominating win last weekend against Leopardos FC, Pumas clinched a spot in the liguilla tournament for affiliate clubs. The team still has one more game to be played prior to the postseason kicking in.

In their latest 5-1 win, Ruben Rojas, Kevin Palma, Said del Angel, and Emilio Segovia scored the goals. Leopardos also were responsible for an own-goal.

Del Angel now has 20 goals in the tournament.
